Rankin’ full stop

Christine Rankin says she’ll accept a role, offered by the National Government, at the Families Commission.  On one level this is unsurprising – she has vocally attacked the repeal of Section 59, which even though National voted for the Bill, they used to attack the Labour Party.  The trust she’s involved in, alongside groups like Family First, are behind the referendum seeking to take us back to the days when parents feel free to hit their children.

But on another level – the woman has a history of chartering flights for her staff to go to conferences.  That’s her taxpayer funded public service staff – and that $250,00 plus conference happened under the last National government.

She took the State Services Commission to the Employment Court to try and win her job back when they refused to re-employ her – and lost, costing goddess knows what in legal fees.

She is going to find few kindred spirits at the Families Commission – who supported the repeal of section 59.  As did these organisations who work with families:

  1. Anyone who speaks against rules preventing parents disciplining their children in a meaningful way should be given a chance to speak their mind as just one of seven. As the commision spoke against s59 they need some common sense in their make-up.
